GAHHHH

by alda on May 29, 2008

We’ve just had an EARTHQUAKE!!!

I’d put it at around 5 on Richter. The whole house shook, cupboard doors opened, Polly the cockatiel flew up screeching, etc. I grabbed AAH and planted both of us in the doorway.

Gotta run. More later.

Double GAHHHH! Earthquakes are not fun. Having the ground shake under your feet makes you feel helpless. Hope everything’s all right.

Looks pretty calm on the Eyjan webcam.

ooh I just read the news and rushed over – hope you are all ok x

Veðurstofan is says it was 6.1, centered near Hveragerði with a ton of aftershocks. Some road damage in the area.

The cranes are back at work on the INCCC in Reykjavík (http://www.portusgroup.is/vefmyndavel). I guess that’s a good sign.

Definitely a big shaker. Hope everyone is back to normal soon and that nothing is broken, no one hurt.

OMG, hope everyone is ok. That looks really scary, from what the papers here say.

Most news sources are reporting 6.7 Richter with the epicenter only about 10km down near Selfoss. If they’re right then aftershocks shouldn’t be a big concern.

I did ring up a couple friends to make sure they were OK but I don’t feel too bad that Carole King’s song has been stuck in my head since news first broke. You’re blogging so you’re OK and the lighthouse is probably still standing. I’ll watch the Tíufréttir in a couple hours.

We just had a smaller one a few weeks ago, and that was scary enough! Hope you didn’t sustain any damage. Keep us posted!

Brrrrr… the Department of Geophysics shows 8 green stars in a triangle between Eyrarbakki, Selfoss and north of Hveragerði. And uncountable amounts of red dots…

There’s your problem right there:

Earthquakes since 1990 (the top graph, that is). See, you’re sitting right on the axis of shaking… Whose idea was it to put the capital there anyway?

Brrrrr! Glad you’re still in one piece x

…le cattive giornate arrivano senza preavviso per questo bisogna crearne di belle e goderle senza risparmiarsi, mi auguro che nessuno si sia fatto male …fate una festa …riempite i calici di vino …ballate e bevete allo scampato pericolo. ciao
