I hope we can get another nice report from Alda. On the news front, I see that 103 companies declared bankruptcy last month. The big hardware store fired 90 or so employees. One of the football teams sacked 9 people. Earlier a big architecture company laid off 50 or so, everybody but the owner. And this is just the beginning. Sad, a whole economy being dismantled piece-by-piece. So what are these people supposed to do? Probably when their unemployment runs out they are gone, to Norway, Dubai, Canada, wherever. Another Saturday, another demo. I hope we can get another nice report from Alda.

Although most business owners concede that as a short-term measure it may be necessary. The idea is to protect against a rush to sell krona bonds once the krona is floated again next week, which would cause massive devaluation. It's bound to happen to some degree anyway, but the hope is that this will reduce the impact. And apparently it is one of the stipulations set by the IMF. After talking at length with Icelanders I've gained a bit of the sensibility and character. But like trying to make sense of "This Hour Has 22 Minutes" from Canada to someone in the U.S., it looses a lot in the translation (and we're talking just English). But the two lines you mentioned were hilarious and understood. lol. Alda, we need a full transcript.
