In his book, 'Meltdown Iceland' (where I first found out about your blog) Roger Boyes gives plenty of evidence of Morgunbladid's links going way back to the Independence Party, demonstrating that editorials rarely wavered from the party line, and on the one occasion when they did, (ie: questioning the policy of awarding quotas to fishing magnates) ' the then editor, Styrmir Gunnarsson was soon called to order by the bosses of the Independence Party and indeed Landsbanki.'
With the latest distortions that you've outlined above Alda, could Iceland be heading for a Disneyfication of its recent history- computer animated cinema with references to the Sagas woven in, complete with sub-titles for world distribution?!!

The one thing that the very stupid and the very powerful have in common is that instead of changing their views to support the facts, they change the facts to support their views. I'm not sure how you explain away the financial collapse. Maybe Oddsson has Jedi Mind Powers, and can simply say 'There was noooooo collapse.' and people will believe him. On the other hand, maybe he has a MISSION IMPOSSIBLE type scheme planned. Some time next week, everyone in Iceland gets a dose of knock-out gas and wakes up 24 hours later to discover that the calendars now say it's now 2005 again. I'm not sure how you get into synch with the rest of the world after that, but anyone who can change everyone's calendar must have something planned...

Gordon Brown once attempted to convince everyone in Britain that, far from being the author of the country's current financial woes, he was in fact responsible for saving the economy of the entire world! Sadly, The Force was not strong in him, and no-one believed him. Poor chap.

"That’s what the IP has been feeding us from the very beginning of the “collapse”"

OK, I know - except for that at the beginning of the "collapse" there was no successor government. Or was it Steingrímur Sigfússon, who delivered the "God-Bless-Iceland" speech back in october 2008? It's so long ago... ;)

Having those incidents of october 2008 shift from collapse to "collapse" seems to define a new stage of denial and rewriting history. So far, I haven't been aware, that the IP was not only in denial of the true causes for the collapse but also for very thing itself.

See proves it was all a figment of your imagination Alda
"The so called imaginary collapse of the imaginary Icesave accounts, complete with the imaginary British and Dutch governments cruising off the shores of fantasy Iceland for their imaginary payback of 5 billion thereabouts." The main thing to remember is that it wuz the fault of the Lehman brothers and the ex airline stewardess is making a real hash of things and we need to get back to the way things were before "the slight finacial hiccup" doubleplus ungood.

Interesting post. Is there already a Newspeak-version of the recent Icelandic history in the making? Or are they still completely occupied deconstructing the truth? The current predicaments seem to be too tangible for all people to attribute them to some collective headache. But as crisis is almost everywhere around us, I guess, we will soon learn that the Icelandic "collapse" is just a by-effect of the global crisis and all bad things happening in its wake should be attributed to the mismanagement by the successor government.

>he and Dr Evil are one and the same

Surely that position is reserved for Gordon Brown (not sure if Darling or Bos would be Mini-Me)?
