OK, so Prez Ólafur Ragnar has finally announced that he will be announcing his decision on Icesave tomorrow.
Meanwhile the Icelandic media, bloggers, Facebookers etc. have debated and discussed ad nauseum what exactly this means, what’s taking him so long, what he’s up to, who he’s talking to, who he’s not talking to, what the people he’s not talking to are saying, what this professor thinks, what that professor thinks, what the implications are if he signs, what the implications are if he doesn’t sign, why this is undemocratic, why we need a new constitution … ad nauseum
*YAWN*
It’s so fricking tedious. Seriously, I feel like I’m stuck in a reality show where something REALLY DRAMATIC is going down and I just can’t take it seriously because I feel like I’m being manipulated. Like that godawful Keeping Up with the Kardashians that somehow always seems to be the only thing on [apart from sports or the horrific Sky news] when I’m on the treadmill at the gym.
Which is precisely in line with what one commentator remarked on the news last night – that Ólafur Ragnar just relishes the attention. He has that kind of reputation – for going out of his way to further his own political agenda. So is he dragging this on for purely narcissistic reasons, or is there something else?
I guess we may never know – but we’ll have an answer on Icesave at 11 am tomorrow. I shall be here, in front of the TV, with the laptop primed.
