A reader named David* sent me this link to a car dealership advertising a mighty fine lookin’ vee-hickle.
There are copious photographs of the unit from every conceivable angle, culminating in the ownership papers, which are made out to one Olaf Olafsson, listed as residing in Luxembourg.
It doesn’t take a sleuth to figure out that this very same Ólafur Ólafsson who was a former major shareholder in Kaupthing bank. Poor guy. It’s so sad to see them sink so low – to have to trade their toys for food. Next thing you know he’ll be selling his private helicopter to pay his children’s medical bills.
CORRECTION!! — According to this report on Pressan, it’s actually NOT Ólafur Ólafsson the Kaupthing entrepreneur, but someone with the exact same name. What are the chances, I ask you?
Thanks for Joerg for the catch [and apologies to Ólafur Ólafsson entrepreneur for the allegation, so relieved that he is not having to peddle his toys after all].

* ps – methinks David has the nicest looking bike shop in Reykavík – probably in the whole country, for that matter.

Terrible when you are down to your last Ferrari. I don’t expect the second hand market for Ferrari or other luxury cars is too good either. Maybe he could buy a bike from David; you know, support local businesses
I’m waiting for when they have to sell kidneys.
Let him take the public buses from now on.
He could then meet the common people who work for a living.
Better yet… have him hitchhike his way around town.
Poor Baby.
Wah,Wah,Wah
Yes indeed comrade citizens, 59 mill krona for a house mortgage on wheels, think about that when you tick the box in your referendum come march 6th whenever.Could not see if it had built in GPS and Aircon otherwise I might consider buying it after all I am wealthy (I own an Iphone
)
Hmmmm how funny. Just today a gallery with the same model in a funny situation that might look likely in Iceland for a car of this type appeared on the most important Italian online newspaper:
http://www.repubblica.it/motori/motori/2010/02/01/foto/ferrari_tirata_come_un_mulo-2152596/1/
Maybe we should investigate? I do not think there are THAT many black F430 “roaming” in snowy places.
Hmmm no different license plates.
Bad days for poor F430 owners.
MishaBear – perhaps they changed them. I coulda sworn that was Ágúst Guðmundsson pulling and Lýður Guðmundsson pushing.
This Ferrari seems to be on sale for quite a while now according to the following article on pressan.is from last september:
http://www.pressan.is/Vidskipti/Lesavidskiptafrettir/olafur-olafsson-selur-ferrari-a-59-milljonir-og-aston-martin-a-27-milljonir—myndir
My Icelandic isn’t too good but I read from this article that this is a different Olaf Olafsson than the Kaupthing shareholder. Or did I get it wrong?
It seems to be a bit late for selling a Ferrari in Iceland, particularly for a black one. Apart from this kind of car being pretty useless there, it might be a preferred target for red paint bombs.
Joerg – nice catch! Indeed, according to this Pressan report it’s NOT the same Ólafur Ólafsson – it’s someone with the exact same name.
What are the chances?
Perhaps 300,000 to 1 which roughly equals the Icelandic population but of course that is pure coincidence !!
@kevin: There are roughly 200 hits for Ólafur Ólafsson on the Icelandic phonebook (www.ja.is). So, it’s apparently a pretty common name. But the coincidence about Luxembourg is indeed striking.
Oh, those bikes look lovely! And single-speed bikes and fixies are definitely good – I’ve got a single-speed bike myself, and I’d never want to go back to more than one gear.
(She’s even got an Icelandic name, BTW, Skinfaxa.)
Here’s a picture of her, too: http://www.flickr.com/photos/schneelocke/3604969984/
