Icesave dispute resolved

This just in from the Baggalútur* news service:

The Icesave dispute has been resolved. Negotiators for Iceland, The Netherlands and the United Kingdom presented the terms of the agreement this morning. They are, in brief:

Icelanders apologize for having stolen the life savings of British and Dutch citizens for the purpose of buying SUVs, chocolate fountains, iPods and plasma TVs.

The Dutch get all male children born in Iceland from 2009-2097.

The British get Hófí, Páll Óskar, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir and the recipe for cocktail sauce.

The Icelanders promise never to do it again (unless they absolutely have to).

Sunny, absolutely calm, with a thin veil of cloud. Cool. Currently 3°C [37F]. The sun came up at 8.31 and will go down at 5.51.

* Icelandic kings of spoof.

You forgot to say “And we won’t do it again” 🙂

Totally Off Subject : Tonight , there is a Iceland Thema on Arte TV.

Great News. Now where do I sign up for this great new online bank I heard about with 18% interest ?

  • ragnhildur October 20, 2009, 6:15 pm

yes! we could throw in Bjork as a freebie to the brits. weather better than here in the caribbean, that’s for sure…

An honorable mention has to go to JohnTrovolta who flew his fuel guzzling 707 into Iceland with very few passengers on board to celebrate the opening of a pack of cigarettes. These Hollywood folk never cease to amaze!

Does this mean that England gets the female children? I’m sure we’ll appreciate the cocktail sauce.

  • James October 21, 2009, 1:06 am

A Miss World covered in cocktail sauce sounds a pretty good deal, as long as she doesn’t expire in 2024…

  • Melvin Godfried October 21, 2009, 8:11 am

Regarding Páll Óskar, I hear that the British want his wardrobe, not him personally.

  • alda October 21, 2009, 10:24 am

Heheh. Thanks for the input everyone. 🙂

@kef – I know banks that give out ~32% interest. Of course the local inflation rate is ~35% (but no bubble to burst)

@Silvia – lol. Was that the white filter or the yellow filter? (yes I watched 101 Reykjavik and got the jokes)

Over here they are jumping for joy over the Dow hitting 10,000. If you take the Dow chart and overlay it with an inverted Dollar value chart they closely match up. Delusions and dyslexia isn’t confined to small north Atlantic nations.

LOL. Philippe P(atay ?), thanks for the Arte info

  • TimOfEngland October 22, 2009, 11:00 am

and I thought the Icelanders had lost their sense of humour .

  • TimOfEngland November 5, 2009, 12:32 am

It’s late, but this post fascinated me. Not the Icelandic humour but for the reasons behind it. It took me a while to track down an explanation a layman could understand. Any English person who does not understand why this is funny/serious should read this article:

We all may have a lot to thank Iceland for in the near future…
