Not saying we’re seeing a trend or anything, but in the last two days TWO people who live in the United States have asked me about their prospects for moving to Iceland and getting work here.
I mentioned this astonishing fact to EPI last night.
EPI: What did you tell them?
YT: Well, you know, I tried to be realistic. Without being negative. There’s the whole issue of work permits for Americans, you know.
EPI: [shaking head] I don’t understand why the US doesn’t just join the European Union.
EPI: I wonder if anybody has ever suggested that to George Bush.
YT: Somebody should. He could make it his last undertaking before leaving office.
YT: He’d probably think it was a great idea.
THE WEATHER’S BETTER HERE, TOO
By which I mean it’s not 30-odd degrees with killer humidity [although I could probably handle a day or two, or ten, of that, just for a change]. Right now the sun keeps poking out from behind the clouds and the rain we had this morning seems to have dissipated completely. We have a very comfortable 11°C [52F] and lots of daylight still … all the way from 6.23 am to 8.28 pm.
