Maybe Iceland should start a green card lottery

Not saying we’re seeing a trend or anything, but in the last two days TWO people who live in the United States have asked me about their prospects for moving to Iceland and getting work here.

I mentioned this astonishing fact to EPI last night.

EPI: What did you tell them?
YT: Well, you know, I tried to be realistic. Without being negative. There’s the whole issue of work permits for Americans, you know.
EPI: [shaking head] I don’t understand why the US doesn’t just join the European Union.
YT: True.
EPI: I wonder if anybody has ever suggested that to George Bush.
YT: Somebody should. He could make it his last undertaking before leaving office.
EPI: Mm.
YT: He’d probably think it was a great idea.

THE WEATHER’S BETTER HERE, TOO
By which I mean it’s not 30-odd degrees with killer humidity [although I could probably handle a day or two, or ten, of that, just for a change]. Right now the sun keeps poking out from behind the clouds and the rain we had this morning seems to have dissipated completely. We have a very comfortable 11°C [52F] and lots of daylight still … all the way from 6.23 am to 8.28 pm.

I was LOL at this post.

    (Should I have been?)

I’m writing my letter to Bush! The US should join the EU (but would the EU accept us?!). I kind of think states should have the right to secede from the US and join the EU at this point, given how divided the country is at this point anyway. I think it may actually be an issue depending on the outcome of these elections, but a lot of Americans are very jaded right now with the economy and our political leadership.

Anyway, I’d be the first in line to submit my name for that green card lottery! 🙂

The US wouldn’t qualify for membership in the EU at this time. The EU demands a stable economy and adherence to human rights to be considered for membership. You may tell Bush that. 😉

That is hilarious! Could we join the EU as individuals? Maybe Jessie is on to something with the secession idea.

Keera, I would like to tell him a lot of things if I wasn’t afraid of being water boarded.

Cat – better than COL [crying out loud] I guess! :-/

Jessie – can’t you just go and start another United States somewhere else? Like, the United States of Europe? 😉

Keera – I’ll make sure I do, next time I get him on the phone.

Jon – you can team up with Jessie to start the US of E.
