Just when you think you’ve heard everything, along something new to scandalize.
It has now been revealed that the previous owners of Apple in Iceland — Jón Ásgeir Jóhannesson and friends under the Baugur Group umbrella — cleaned out the “repair fund” of the company before it went bust in late 2008.
By “repair fund” I mean a fund that Apple Inc. pays into for each of their worldwide franchises to cover any potential repairs of Apple computers.
When new owners of the Apple franchise took over, it transpired that the banksters had cleaned out the fund and it was empty.
But then again, what can you expect from the people who apparently robbed not one but two whole banks from the inside?

It is much more efficient to rob from the inside. You can get security to carry the bags for you.
Well, not to divert the topic, but this is just proof that Apple should set up a corporate store in Reykjavík, ffs. Also, would be nice if they localised ANYTHING for Icelandic.
Good thing I didn’t need my Ipod repaired while I was there!
Forgot to bring the “plug into the car cord” and the “plug into the computer cord” and had to buy replacements there… but no repairs!
Am I mistaken, that according to Icelandic law, nothing unlawful happened here and that the people involved are, of course, not behind bars?
Which businesses does this clique of robbers still own? I always wonder, if it safe to prepay any services in Iceland, as I never know, if JÀJ is behind it, just waiting to plunder whatever he can get hold of.
If Apple’s lawyers weren’t so busy suing bloggers for publishing pictures of lost iphone prototypes, you’d think they’d have something to say about this.
Did they steal the towels in the bathrooms as well? Is Iceland run by sociopaths? Don’t answer that 😉
All these little bits of info add up to a program of wholesale looting. It does not seem like there was any intention of running legitimate businesses. Pure crime wave!
Kris- they didn’t only steal the towels, they took all of the bars of soap, tea bags, shampoo, cotton wool buds, shower caps, bottles of water, flannels, the sheets off the bed……it’s called pillage, the sort of thing I thought the vikings gave up doing about a thousand years ago.
sylvia from viking wirral
Steve Jobs versus Jón Ásgeir? I’d pay to watch that.
Mike yeah! please, please, let us see that!
