Penis Mall is up for grabs!

Um, metaphorically speaking.

Ladies and Gents: Penis Mall, one of Niceland’s most famous landmarks, not to mention the one with the Greatest Hits Ever on the IWR, will be listed for sale in the coming weeks.

Smáralind, aka Penis Mall, was once owned by Baugur Group, right around the time they started on their inflated quest for world domination.

And now – it is nothing more than a flaccid symbol of their impotence.

But then again – what do you expect with no balls?

did they intentionally build this mall to look like a giant penis?? or did they just build it and then say “you know, this building looks like a giant penis”? i’m genuinely curious…

    Erectile Disfunction.

Who designed that building? What drugs were they on? Viagra?

[JAJ] You can have my Penis Mall when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!

But I see that you’re right Alda. The architect certainly missed a trick. A big roundabout or lake near the, umm, base of the mall would have been a good addittion.

Oh, it’s for sale? Wow, I’d sure love to lay my hands on that one – but then again, I don’t want to bite off (ouch) more than I can swallow. 😀

Speaking of peni, the Penis Museum is among the reasons Iceland is a “sick, sex-obsessed heathen society” and why “God Hates Iceland”, according to the Rev. Jim Osbourne, a Christian Televangelist.
Check out the post here, http://blog.eyjan.is/larahanna/, it’s in English.

Flygill – you do know that forum is a spoof, don’t you?

Just pre kreppa I met an architect that had been involved in the Penis Mall project and he had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA about its nickname, and seemed genuinely surprised that Smaralind had earned such a moniker. Doh!

  • idunn February 20, 2010, 8:06 pm

Presumably Smaralind is still operational. I’d be curious to what extent, and in this economic environment how many of the storefronts are vacant/for lease. What is the overall mood of the shoppers within, now, and say compared to several years ago at the height of the boom?

  • Andrew (the other one) February 20, 2010, 10:26 pm

Well, architects don’t get out much, so they just wouldn’t realise what it looked like!

  • Sigvaldi Eggertsson February 21, 2010, 12:34 pm

Iðunn, I think the Smáralind is open to pretty much the same extent as before the crash, there are a few empty spaces but some of them already were vacant before it happened.
I am not sure of how one would gauge the overall mood, I do not come there often enough for that, but the place seemed full enough when I last visited.

Thought there might be some ‘clever’ “Field of Dreams” reference to be had there (as regards construction)… maybe not though, eh.
I am pretty sure Iceland has had enough of being… shafted by these guys.
    Were they taking the piss?

What is even better if you look down to the first floor from above you can see those little brown seemen’s “swiming” along the floor to the head.

You should get a picture of that. 😉

This is an aerial of Smaralind. Looks rather lame from the air:

Once the Icesave vote occurs next week, the owners of the mall will also be getting Electile Dysfunction.
