Everyone: just a short note to let you know that I’ve launched a Facebook Page for The Iceland Weather Report.
Over a year ago when I was considering creating a presence for the blog on Facebook I was unsure of whether I should start a Group or a Page. I wasn’t really all that familiar with either, but decided in the end to start a group, mostly because I was turned off by the phrase “become a fan” that appears on Pages.
I just thought it was a bit presumptuous to ask people to become “fans”.
However, I have since found out that a Page serves a better function than a Group does, especially since the original Group discussion board has more or less moved to the IWR forums.
The Page, on the other hand, allows people to receive feeds from the Page to their Facebook profiles, for example when there is an update on the blog. That way I don’t have to annoy all my FB friends by incessantly posting blog updates to my profile. Only those who are “fans” will receive those updates.
The Page also allows “fans” to post stuff to the page – like photos, videos, message, etc. – which will then show up in the feed.
So if you’re on Facebook, feel free to join the party and become a … fan.
