What’s your number one feelgood song?

Does anyone remember my post from nearly a year ago, when I was heading out to a gala dinner in EPI’s listening club and needed a song to play?

Well, it’s happening again.

Brief recap: EPI belongs to a listening club, where he gets together with his pals every now and again and they introduce each other to new music. Once a year they do a gala event where we the partners-slash-spouses are invited – and everybody has to bring a song to play.

Last year’s theme was: “A song that makes you want to dance.”

This year’s theme is: “A song that makes you feel good.”

Pretty broad, innit? EPI has just told me I need to make a decision by tomorrow [!] and while I’ve got one or two ideas, I just know I’m going to have a hard time choosing.

And so, dear readers, I would welcome your suggestions. If you had to choose “a song that makes you feel good” and play it for a group of your friends — what would it be??

TODAY WAS THE *REAL* FIRST DAY OF SUMMER
I had a massage this afternoon [mmm] and headed to the pool afterward for some extra slacker-action. The sun was out, and I actually lay on a bench and got sunburned. I kid you not. Not severely, of course – but enough to be able to brag about it. Right now 6°C [down from around 11 today][43F], the sun came up at 5:13 am, set at 9:39 pm.

First two that come to mind are My Girl- The Temptations and Oh Yoko- John Lennon (the piano in that song is sooo happy). And Real Love- the Beatles version.

I would say ABBA is my ultimate feel good choise! You can’t go wrong with Mama Mia!
Some brilliant choises above eg. Move on up, Come up and see me (make me smile), Here comes the summer (Undertones were probably the ultimate feel good punk rock band!) and My girl (in general sixties Motown was a feel good company -eg The way you do the things you do!).

    A couple more suggestions:
Son of a preacher man – Dusty Springfield and Driving away from home by It’s Immaterial.

    Good thread!

OK, everyone — I sent my song today. It wasn’t any of the above, although a few of those were STRONG candidates. Unfortunately I can’t say what I picked until the evening has passed. I hope you can contain your anticipation. 😉

Keep your suggestions coming, though. This is a great way to learn about new songs.

Next year you can set up a competition among us reportophiles.

    Love the thread!

Hey, I’m late but yeah, Jesse Cook and lively funky Bonnie Raitt.

Caught your interview on CBC TO when I was only half listening but knew it had to be you. Very cool! (I e-mailed Cliff about it but not sure if he heard it or searched it.)
You sure have a lot happenin’ in your life! Nice to see. Your honesty and openness in your posts have always been appreciated.

I would say who is it, by Bjork.
There’s something about that song that always makes me happy

I can’t remember how many seasons of the wire I’ve watched but all I can say is it gets better and better! As for feel good songs Ricky Martin’s “Livin La Vida Loca” always seems to get me in the mood. It gets me thinking of an Earth Angel I know who can be quite the little devil when she wants to be, but always seems to get me feeling my best
